7 Important Spices For The Heart

As Indians, we simply cannot consume food without spices. We don’t use only one kind in our food; we use a whole different bunch of them to add flavours to our dishes. However, you should be aware of which spices are good for your body, especially your heart. Here is a list of foods you must add in your diet to ensure the cardio vascular strength and health of your heart:

Cardamom

This is commonly called as elaichi. More than food, this is used widely in tea, to add that perfect flavour which makes it the perfect beverage to consume during monsoons. It is slightly pungent and it has a hint of sweet which makes it a perfect taste enhancer. It is packed with vitamin A, vitamin C, iron, zinc and other nutrients that are known to prevent blood clots while simultaneously improving heart health.

Chill pepper

This spice adds a lot of flavour to your food but at the same time it also contains an immunity boosting vitamin C which helps to keep the blood pressure level in check. It is very healthy to consume chill pepper as it also acts a detoxifying agent and cures sore throats as well.

Mustard

Using mustard oil for your daily cooking can be a very good lifestyle change. This oil is rich in MUFA which regulates cholesterol level and blood fat levels.

Celery seeds

This is commonly used in the Mediterranean region but is also used in the sub- continent of India. It is generally added to herbal tea. Celery seeds are known to combat inflammation and high blood pressure.

Cinnamon

Dal Chini is a crowd favourite when it comes to making special meals like biryani and chicken curries. Cinnamon, according to many studies, has lots of antioxidant and anti- inflammatory properties which protect us from a lot of disease, not limited to the heart but the whole body in general.

Garlic

Garlic is mostly advised to hear patients by doctors as it is loaded with anti- microbial and anti- oxidant properties. Eating garlic or consuming it in various forms in our diet helps to lower cholesterol levels while also keeping blood sugar levels at check.

Ginger:

Gingerol is an active compound found in ginger and it has a lot of health benefits. It is an analgesic, sedative, antipyretic and antibacterial effects and is loaded with antioxidants. A lot of studies show that consuming ginger also helps to fight ‘bad’ cholesterol which eventually puts a person in the risk of getting a heart disease.
