Punjab government should pay full compensation for loss of cotton crop due to pink bollworm
Due to government’s collusion, frequent deaths due to drugs in Bathinda area
Bathinda, September 10 2021
Expressing concern over the pink bollworm infestation and spread of drug menace in the Malwa region, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab MLA from Barnala and Youth Wing Punjab president Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer alleged that Chief Minister Capt Amarinder has completely failed to deliver on his promises to save the farmers and youth of Punjab. Meet Hayer was addressing a press conference at Bathinda, with senior leader and Lok Sabha in-charge Rakesh Puri, district president Bathinda Urban Neel Garg, state vice-president Legal Cell Navdeep Singh Jidda on Friday.
Slamming the Capt Amarinder Singh-led Congress government and the previous SAD-BJP government led by Parkash Singh Badal, Meet Hayer said, “Just as the cotton crop was destroyed by the white fly during the previous Badal government, the entire cotton crop of Malwa belt has been destroyed due to the outbreak of pink bollworm due to the negligence of the government.” He alleged that while the Modi government was trying to destroy the farmers of Punjab through black laws, the agriculture department of the Punjab government headed by Capt Amarinder Singh himself had failed miserably in protecting the crops and farmers.
Expressing surprise, Hayer said that an agriculture-oriented state did not even have its own agriculture minister and the Chief Minister who did not even come out of his farm house; was in slumber with an important department like agriculture. He said the pink bollworm was not dying even after repeated spraying of pesticides after the outbreak due to which the farmers have suffered financially and mentally.
Revealing that there was some big scam due to ineffectiveness of pesticides, Hayer said that just as the white fly destroyed the farming due to counterfeit medicines during the Akali government, today the pink bollworm is destroying the farming. He said this too should be investigated at a higher level and compensation of Rs 1000 per quintal should be paid by the Punjab government to the cotton farmers.
Regarding the drug menace in Punjab, Meet Hayer said that deaths due to drug overdoses are on a daily basis. He said nine to ten youths have died in Bathinda district in the last one month, for which the Capt Amarinder Singh-led Congress government is responsible; who even after taking oath of Sri Gutka Sahib had failed miserably in controlling the drug menace. He said that the sealed STF report has been gathering dust since February 2018. Hayer further said that the Youth Wing of the Aam Aadmi Party Punjab from September 20 will hold a motorcycle rally from Bathinda to Patiala on the same spot where Capt Amarinder Singh had taken false oath of Sri Gutka Sahib, to create awareness among the people of Punjab and will burn effigy of Capt Amarinder Singh at Patiala.
Meet Hayer said, “The people of Punjab will never forgive Capt Amarinder Singh because drug-related deaths in Punjab have caused outcry. Taking a dig at Captain Amarinder Singh on the death of two brothers due to drug overdose in Mehraj, the ancestral village of Captain; Meet Hayer said that if Capt Amarinder could not save the youth of his village from the scourge of drugs; then how he would save the rest of the people of Punjab.
On the occasion, district cashier M.L. Jindal, office in-charge Baljinder Singh Brar, councilor Jagroop Singh Gill, media in-charge Balkar Singh Bhokra, social media in-charge Sukhbir Brar, district president Intellectual Wing Mahinder Singh Phullo Mithi and former Sarpanch Mahinder Singh among others were present.
