Head teacher Sonam Gailtson of Ladakh awarded National Best Teachers’ Award

Leh: Sep. 05: As per the Chief Education Officer Leh, on the occasion of ‘Teachers Day’ celebration, an award distribution ceremony was held in the Video Conference Hall of Deputy Commissioner/CEO LAHDC Leh today.

The President of India Ram Nath Kovind conferred the National Best Teachers’ Award to the 47 teachers across the country for their contribution in developing innovative methods of teaching in a virtual ceremony today. Among the 47 teachers, Head teacher Govt School Taknak Sakti Leh-Ladakh Sonam Gailtson was also conferred the National Best Teachers’ Award certificate and Silver medal via video conferencing.

Deputy Commissioner Leh Sachin Kumar Vaishya presented the medal and certificate to Sonam Gailtson on behalf of Hon’ble President of India in presence of Director School Education Ladakh, Chief Education Officer Leh and other senior officers of Education Department Leh.

Sonam Gailtson has been awarded with the prestigious award in recognition to his exemplary work by reviving the roll in Government School Taknak Sakti and initiating changes with innovative teaching methods such as subject wise classroom/lab with students moving between classes in place of the teachers and many more. He even got his daughter enrolled with the same school and bought a school bus from his own money on loan thus becoming an example for others in the society to follow

It is pertinent to mention that the Department of School Education and Literacy and Ministry of Education, Govt. of India organizes a national level function on teachers day 5th Sept every year to confer the National Award to the Best Teacher of the country selected through a transparent online three stage selection process. This year due to pandemic situation the award function has been held through webinar using NIC platform through Video Conference.

Further the School Education Department under the instructions from Ministry of Education, Govt. of India is organizing number of events/competitions from 5th September to 25th September 2020 in connection with “preparation of communication material” relating to National Education policy (NEP-2020).Ten best entries of UT level will be submitted online for National Level Selection.
