Chandigarh, 8 September – A week-long online Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on ‘Green Technologies and Environmental Sustainability’ (GTES-2020) begins at J.C. Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA, Faridabad. The Programme which is being sponsored by TEQIP-3, is attended by more than 250 participants from 18 States across the country on digital platform.
The Programme was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar to mark the very first International Day of Clean Air for blue skies. The day aims to raise public awareness at all levels—individual, community, corporate and government that clean air is important for health, productivity, the economy and the environment.
The Programme was coordinated by Chairperson of Department of Civil Engineering Prof. M.L. Aggarwal and Chairperson of Department of Environment Sciences Dr. Renuka Gupta.
Speaking on this occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar underlined the importance of a clean and green environment. Referring to the impact of COVID-19, he said that apart from all negative impacts of health and economy, this pandemic has also given us an opportunity to realise the importance of our Nature. Mentioning the reduction of pollution level during lockdown period, he said that Faridabad has recorded Air Quality Index (AQR) between 50-100 which was 400-600 prior to Covid period. He further emphasized the need to take effective steps to maintain this index level and urged the students to plant and adopt trees for a sustainable environment.
Chairperson of Environmental Sciences Dr. Renuka Gupta discussed the key topic of the FDP. She conveyed that the FDP is especially intended for Faculty members working in the interdisciplinary subjects of varied expertise. The resource persons in the FDP include eminent faculty members from reputed institutes in India and abroad, she added.
