Talking to media persons here, Satyendar Jain said, “The power crisis in India is being created by the BJP-led central government under a deep conspiracy when the power generation capacity of the country exceeds its demand.” Satyendar Jain, who is also in charge of Delhi’s power ministry, elaborated on the power crisis stating that the total power generation capacity in the country is 340,000 MW, compared to the demand of 100,000 MW across the country. However, no power plant is operating at its full capacity and the power houses which are operating up to half of their capacity; do not have coal reserves for more than one day, while these power plants should have coal reserves for at least 20 days.
Lashing out at the Modi government, Jain said that it was the duty of the Union government to ensure the availability of coal for power generation plants but the Modi government was bent on creating chaos in the country by creating artificial shortage of coal in a planned manner.
Regarding health services, Satyendar Jain said that till 1980 Punjab’s government health care system was the best in the country. “Over the last four decades, the ruling Congress and the SAD-BJP have created a pitiable state of public health services in Punjab, with a deliberate conspiracy to promote private hospitals at the expense of public health services; the cost of which is being borne by all sections including the common and poor people of Punjab,” he said.
Jain further said that Arvind Kejriwal’s government in Delhi has done an exemplary job in public health services as its intention and policy was clear and unambiguous. On the other hand, the Punjab government could not even set up five new dispensaries. Challenging the Punjab government, he said while the Kejriwal government had set up hundreds of ‘Mohalla Clinics’ in Delhi; the Punjab government should tell the names of five government dispensaries; been set up in the last four-and-a-half-years.
Describing the Lakhimpur Kheri incident as a blot on the democracy of the nation, Jain said it was unfortunate that the BJP and its leaders had started behaving like dictators and instead of paying attention to the demands of the farmers, they are treating them cruelly and inhumanely.
