DC Kargil chairs Road Safety Committee Meeting

Stresses for effective, well-organized road safety measures

KARGIL SEPTEMBER 08, 2020: Deputy Commissioner/District Magistrate and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Baseer ul Haq Choudhary chaired a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee here today.

Members of the committee including the Senior Superintendent of Police Kargil Dr. Vinod Kumar, Additional SP Kargil Iftikhar Talib Choudhary, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Education Officer, Executive Engineer R&B II Kargil, Executive Officer, Municipal Committee Kargil, Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Kargil, District Traffic Inspector besides other concerned officers were present in the meeting.

The Deputy Commissioner who is also the Chairman of the District Road Safety Committee Kargil emphasized the need to put in place an effective and workable road safety management system in the district. He stressed the committee members to take concrete measures to achieve this goal.

Baseer instructed the officers of R&B, ARTO, MC, Traffic Police and other concerned officers to ensure the identification of bus stops, footpaths, free parking spaces and black spots in Kargil town to be notified as paid parking spaces by the MC. He asked officers to submit survey report in this regard by 13th September, 2020 for further course of action.

Meanwhile, the SSP Kargil proposed an innovative measure for awareness of road safety by installing electronic display screens at different locations in Kargil town.

The DC directed the Traffic Department to strictly implement No Entry for heavy vehicles during the day time besides to keep the District Hospital Road free from unauthorized parking and traffic obstacles round the clock.

With regard to the requirements of traffic controlling devices and signage, the DC instructed the Traffic Police and MC authorities to submit the detailed requirements in this regard at the earliest.

Baseer also directed all the members to make coordinated efforts to ensure safety on roads and prompt emergency care. He further underlined the need for a swift and responsive coordination mechanism among Police, Health Department, ARTO, SDMs and Tehsildars to ensure prompt attention and medical care to the road accident victims in case of road accidents.

While emphasizing the need for practical measures to enhance awareness about traffic etiquette and road safety measures among masses, the DC directed the concerned officers to carry out all-inclusive publicity through Radio, TV and social media. He also asked the ARTO to hold road safety sensitization programmes for drivers.

The DC also asked members of the District Road Safety Committee to suggest innovative inputs and ideas to make the road safety measures and awareness about the pressing need of road safety effective and well-organized.
