No qualified doctor present there, Tramadol drug seized

Acting on directions of Deputy Commisisoner Isha Kalia, a team of district administration, health and Police department today conducted a surprise check at Swastik Hospital, Ghaipur Road, Zirakpur and sealed the hospital till further orders after major irregularities have been found.

Divulging the details, Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) DeraBassi Mr. Kuldeep Bawa informed that a tip off was received reports that the illegal activities were running on the pretext of a treatment. A team comprising Medical Officer Dr. Mehtab, MC Inspector Zirakpur Rishab and ASI Police Station Zirakpur Barinder Singh apart from himself was formed.
He apprised that the team conducted a surprise check and found illegal practices running there including the one attendant named himself as Ajinderpal Singh being treated the patients as qualified doctor but he has not any documentation of qualified doctor besides the paper of Trainee Pharmacist which expired on July 31, 2020.
Mr. Bawa said that Ajinderpal said that Dr. Pragati is running the affairs in this hospital, whose duty starts in the evening but her documents do not establish the fact that she is a qualified doctor except that she is only an Ayurvedic Doctor. The team has also found bogus stamps from the hospital in which the Doctor Pragati is termed as MD.
SDM further said that the team also found banned drug Tramadol from the hospital which is usually being used as a strong painkiller. It’s used to treat moderate to severe pain and this drug is available only on prescription of a qualified doctor as it’s been usually used for intoxication. He said that the administration has recommended FIR against the management of the hospital to police and necessary action to Civil Surgeon, Mohali.
Unethical practices can’t be tolerated: Isha Kalia
Deputy Commissioner Ms. Isha Kalia said that illegal practices in hospitals can’t be tolerated as the medical profession is considered to be one of the noblest professions because it helps in preserving life. She said that if anyone found duping patients on the name of treatment then stern action would be taken against him. She added that the Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi is committed to ensure world class health facilities to every citizen of the state.
