SAYS, PUNJAB GOVERNMENT COMMITTED TO REVIVE THE PRISTINE GLORY OF STATE’S RICH SPORTS LEGACY

Sports Minister Punjab Mr Pargat Singh today said that the state government will explore feasibility of making a budgetary provision for the Surjeet Hockey Society from the coming year.
Addressing the gathering during the closing ceremony of the Surjeet Hockey tournament, the Minister lauded the enormous contribution of the society in the promotion of Hockey. He said that the government recognises this great role and every effort will be made to encourage the efforts made by society. Mr Pargat Singh also said that state government will try to make budgetary provisions for this is future.

Meanwhile announcing a grant of Rs. 31 lakh for the society, the Minister said that it was in recognition to the efforts made by the society for the promotion of hockey. He further stated that state government was committed to make sports in-tune with the contemporary times as slew of initiatives were already being undertaken by the government.
Pargat Singh also said that these pro-sports initiatives will also further help to channelise the unbounded energy of youth in a positive manner in field of sports.
Showering heaps of praise on the society, he said that the surjit Hockey society has worked tirelessly to uphold the glorious legacy of the great Olympians born in the country. He also stated that this victory has laid the foundation of a great movement aimed at revival of the national game. Cabinet Minister also lauded the efforts of Gakhal group especially Amolak Singh Gakhal for giving Rs. 5 lakh to Surjit Hockey Society for prize money.
