To ensure maximum participation of youth in the electoral process, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori has directed all the education institutions in the district to initiate special campaigns inside their campuses to enroll eligible youths above 18 years as new voters.

As per schedule prepared by the district administration, as many as 54 colleges have been roped in for special drives in their campuses, he said adding on November 17 camps to be held at DAV college Phillaur, GNDU campus Tehang, Shri Hanumant college Goraya, Guru Nanak Khalsa college Sang Dhesia. Likewise more camps to be held on November 18 at Guru Nanak National college Nakodar, KRM DAV college Nakodar, GNDU Nakodar campus, on November 20 PTM Arya college Noormahal, PSI of Science & Technology Nakodar, Government ITI Nakodar, Satyam college Nakodar, on November 22 at Bhagat Nursing college Mudh, Sant Avtar Singh Yadgari college Seechewal, Mata Sahib Kaur Khalsa college Daduwal, APS college Nursing Malsian, on November 23 at Mata Gujri Khalsa college Kartarpur, DR. B.R. Ambedkar NIT Jalandhar, Government ITI Kartarpur, on November 24 at St. Soldier College Basti Danishmanda , St. Soldier Institute of Management & Technology Kapurthala Road, MGN college, Paradise college Jalandhar, APJ college Jalandhar, HMV college Jalandhar, on November 25 at Government college of Education Ladowali road, GNDU campus Laddhewali, on November 26 at Khalsa college of law, Khalsa college Jalandhar, APJ college of Fine Arts, Trinity college, GNDU regional campus Jalandhar, government college of Education, Government ITI Lajpat Nagar, on November 27 at Layalpur Khalsa college, Polytechnic college for girls, KMV college, Mehar Chand ITI, DAV college Jalandhar, DAVIET Jalandhar, Doaba college, on November 29 at Sant Baba Bhag Singh University, Khiala, GNDU college Daroli Kalan, Guru Nanak Polytechnic college, Janta College Bhogpur, and on November 30 special camps would be held at GGM Government college Jandiala, Innocent Hearts college of Education, BD Arya college Jalandhar Cantt, Layallpur Khalsa college for women, Government College Shahkot, and Government ITI Shahkot. The deputy commissioner has also appointed officials to coordinate with these educational institutions for the smooth conduct of this drive.

Meanwhile, the DC further said that the district administration once again all set to organize special booth level camps to facilitate the voters for verifications of their names, new registrations, changes in the voter details and corrections in the Voter Id Cards for the upcoming Assembly Elections 2022 on November 20 & 21, 2021. Thori said that the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will personally attend voters at all 1974 polling booths across the district. This included 242 booths in Phillaur assembly constituency, likewise 252 in Nakodar, 250 Shahkot, 228 Kartarpur, 183 Jalandhar West, 190 Jalandhar Central, 196 Jalandhar North, 216 Jalandhar Cantt, and 217 booths in Adampur assembly constituency.

The staff deputed during these camps would facilitate the people by filling up their forms thereby enabling them to participate in the democratic process. The Election Registration Officers (ERO) and Assistant Election Registration Officers (AEROs) of the respective constituencies would also visit the polling booths and interact with the people about the ongoing process. He categorically stated that EROs with lower registration of young voters have to submit the detailed explanation as ECI has been putting this task on top priority.

He also urged the people to derive maximum benefits from these camps to become an active partner in the democratic process in the country. He also said that these camps would play an instrumental role in further strengthening the democratic system in the country. These camps were being organized to ensure that every eligible voter was covered in the voter list. Notably, the new eligible voters could also register themselves online through National Voter Services Portal (NVSP).
