Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Saturday paid rich tributes to former Sri Muktsar Sahib MLA Sukhdarshan Singh Marar on his first death anniversary.

Speaking during the occasion the CM Channi termed Marar as man of the masses who held numerous important political posts during long political career spanning over nearly five decades.

The Chief Minister further said that apart from the becoming MLA (2002-2007) Sukhdarshan Singh Marar also held positions as Director- Primary Co-Operative Development Bank, Director -Punjab State Co-Operative Bank, SGPC member, Member Zila Parishad, Block Samiti, Market Committe and was Sarpanch of Marar village continuously for 25 years.

Refreshing his memories, the Chief Minister mentioned about the works done by the former MLA adding he said that no leader can enjoy these several positions without the love and affection of masses.

“Marar attained fame and became the leader of the masses out of sheer hard work, commitment , dedication and due to his relentless efforts for uplifting the economically weaker sections of society of this area”, Chief Minister said.

Acceding to the request to complete the unfinished works by former MLA’s son Rajbalwinder Marar in the region, the Chief Minister announced Rs 10 crores for the reconstruction of a dilapidated Regional Center of Panjab University besides 2-2.5 crores for the repair of Udaykaran Minor and another rivulet near Warring village.

Among others who were also present on the occasion included; former MLA Karan Kaur Brar, Jaspal Marar, Honey Fattanwala besides Deputy Commissioner Harpreet Sudan and SSP Sarabjit Singh.
