Chandigarh, September 21, 2020

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab announcing its full support to the farmers’ strike on September 25 against anti-agriculture Draconian laws and directed all its leaders and workers-volunteers to stand firm in this struggle.

The party has announced a program on September 24 to protest against these black laws by forming human chains across Punjab. In addition, a delegation of MLAs and leaders led by Leader of Opposition Harpal Singh Cheema and Punjab in-charge Jarnail Singh (MLA) handed over a memorandum to the President through the Governor of Punjab and appealed not approve these three anti-agriculture laws. However, when the Raj Bhavan did not allow to meet the Governor, the AAP delegation sat on a dharna in front of the Raj Bhavan. Keeping in view the critical situation, Punjab Governor VP Singh Badnaur had to come himself to collect the memorandum. The Governor not only met the AAP delegation but also assured that he would forward the AAP’s memorandum to the President immediately.

Addressing the media here on Monday, Harpal Singh Cheema, Jarnail Singh and Prof. Baljinder Kaur termed Congress and BJP including Badals as anti-farmer parties. He was accompanied by Deputy Leader of Opposition Sarabjit Kaur Manunke, Principal Budh Ram, Meet Hayer, Kulwant Singh Pandori, Master Baldev Singh Jaito (all MLAs), State General Secretary Harchand Singh Burst, Senior Leader Raj Lali Gill and other leaders.

Harpal Singh Cheema termed the coercion used by the ruling BJP to pass these agricultural laws as a blatant assassination of democracy.

Cheema said that the spirit of dictator Hitler had entered Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which would be disastrous for the people and democracy of the country. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the entire Punjab and the country to unite and save democracy. Cheema demanded immediate resignation of BJP MP and Union Minister Som Prakash from Hoshiarpur in favor of the farmers and warned to lay siege to the Union Minister’s house if he did not resign.

On the occasion Mr. Jarnail Singh said that AAP had been directly and openly opposing these deadly ordinances from day one while accusing the entire Badal family including Harsimrat Kaur Badal and Chief Minister Amarinder Singh of pursuing a double and opportunistic policy. Jarnail Singh said that AAP would protest against black laws on September 24 by forming human links in Punjab.

On this occasion Prof. Baljinder Kaur said that despite the alleged announcement of MSP, cotton and maize crops were being procured in the mandis at half price. She said that if Modi government succeeds in enforcing this fatal law then wheat and paddy would be like maize and cotton.
