The Electoral Literacy Club of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh celebrated National Voters’ Day with a national level Online Poetry Recitation Competition and Online Pledge ceremony. Keeping in mind the theme for this year’s National Voters’ Day i.e. ‘Making Elections Inclusive, Accessible and Participative’, the activities by the Club envisioned to encourage young voters to participate in ensuring the integrity and success of the election process and also to educate community about the importance of exercising one’s right to vote. Over 58 students from various states participated in the Poetry Recitation Competition, highlighting the importance of vote for a robust democracy. In the online pledge, 82 students took the oath to judiciously cast their vote during the elections.
Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava, lauding this initiative of the Electoral Literacy Club, said that every Indian should realise the value of right to vote and make judicious use of the privilege to be a voter in the largest democracy in the world. She added that the foundation of a successful democracy is laid on sound electoral processes.
