District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma said that that these 14 polling booths have been set up in all 14 Vidhan Sabha constituencies (one in each constituency) and would be exclusively managed by only women teams during polls on Sunday. He said that the entire staff in such polling booths, including the polling staff, police and security personnel, would be women.
He said that the polling booths would be distinguished by its pink design, including pink walls and table covers.
Envisioning this instrumental step, he said the move would help to break the gender stereotypes that women employees are usually reluctant in doing election duties whereas the women are excelling in every area of the society through their hard work and dedication.
The Deputy Commissioner said that this is a leap further towards women empowerment and gender equality. Upon his visit to Government Senior Secondary Smart School in Punjab Agricultural University here today, the DC also interacted with 4 women namely Anita Deora, Jasvir Kaur, Rajni and Payal who themselves volunteered to form an all women polling station in Dakha constituency.
The District Administration has also set up 14 Persons With Disability (PwD) polling booths, along with 178 Model Polling Booths in the district.
