Speakers highlight importance of responsible tourism by way of proper cleanliness, hygiene
KARGIL SEPTEMBER 27, 2020: World Tourism Day with the theme of “Building peace and Fostering Knowledge” was organised by the Tourism Department UT Ladakh in collaboration with LAHDC, Kargil at Drass here today.
As a part of the celebrations and keeping in view the COVID-19 pandemic situation, an awareness cum cleanliness drive and a rally was organized on the occasion.
Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Drass Asgar Ali was chief guest on this occasion while the Assistant Director Tourism Aga Syed Toha, SHO Drass Manzoor Hussain, tourism experts besides students participated in the programme.
As per the theme of World Tourism Day this year “Tourism and Rural Development” the speakers highlighted the unique role played by tourism in job creation in small towns and rural areas and its role in the preservation of cultural and natural heritage.
During the course of the event, the participants stressed on the preservation of the historical monuments and heritage sites.
The speakers also highlighted the concept of home stays to be introduced in the district including Drass sub division for promotion of tourism and for introducing measures towards the promotion of winter tourism. This they said, would go a long way in creating job opportunities for the local population.
At the end of the programme, a cleanliness drive and a rally was taken out in Drass Town with the slogan to assert the importance of clean surroundings and proper hygiene for visiting tourists as well as the local population.
Local shopkeepers and students participated in the rally.
