Prof. Nirpjit Kaur Gill was the life partner of Prof. Gurbhajan Singh Gill, former President of Punjabi Sahitya Aradmi Ludhiana, who had passed away fighting cancer on 8 November 1993. She was a Punjabi Lecturer at Ramgarhia Girls College, Ludhiana and the author of Gurbachan Singh Bhullar’s Katha Vidhi, the first critical book on Gurbachan Singh Bhullar’s work in the field of Punjabi Criticism.
In the memory of her beloved friend Prof. Nirpjit Kaur Gill, Dr. Ramesh Inder Kaur Bal handed over a cheque of Rs 1 lakh to Punjabi Sahit Akademi president Dr. Lakhwinder Singh Johal and General Secretary Dr Guriqbal Singh in the presence of Prof Gurbhajan Singh Gill.
While thanking Dr Bal’s family, Dr Lakhwinder Singh Johal said that this Rs 1 lakh would be added to the existing deposit of Rs 2.5 lakh and through the rate of interest on the principal amount, the prize money would be increased from next year.
General Secretary Dr Guriqbal Singh informed that Prof. Gurbhajan Singh Gill’s family had established this award in the year 2015 which is given to the retired teachers of universities and colleges, who, along with their classroom teaching, have also contributed or are still contributing in literary and cultural fields resulting in overall development of students.
So far this award has been presented to Prof. Tej Kaur Dardi, Dr. Jasbir Kaur Kesar and Dr. Ramesh Inder Kaur Bal.
Due to Covid19 pandemic, the awards for last 3 years could not be presented. A meeting for presenting awards for last 3 years was held under the chairmanship of Dr Lakhwinder Singh Johal on April 11, 2022.
The Prof Nirpjit Kaur Gill Memorial awards for last three years would be presented to Dr Iqbal Kaur Saund, Retd Professor, Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar, Dr Baljit Kaur, Retd Professor, Regional Centre, Guru Nanak Dev University and Dr Vineeta, Retd Professor, Delhi University.
The award committee comprised of Dr Lakhwinder Singh Johal, Dr Sham Sundar Deepti, Dr Surjit Patar, Dr Surjit Singh, Prof Ravinder Bhathal, and Sukhjit. Two invitee members Dr. SP Singh and Dr. Ramesh Inder Kaur Bal also expressed their consent on these names.
The awards will be presented shortly at Baba Gurmukh Singh Hall of Ramgarhia Girls College, Ludhiana.
