A 5 day Cocoon market, organized by Sericulture Department, Kupwara held successfully. As many as 547 cocoon growers from Langate, Kupwara, Handwara, Karnah and Lolab areas of the district took part in the 5 days long auction market. On the occasion, District Sericulture Officer ( DSO) , Kupwara told that 21.5 Metric tons of cocoon were sold by the cocoon growers fetching an amount of Rs 51.70 lacs to the cocoon growers.
It was also informed that the buyers from local silk reeling units including Himalaya Silk, Bombay Silk, ASD Silk unit and JKI besides, buyers from West Bengal also participated in the market. DSO said that Sericulture has huge potential for the coming generation and the youth of the district should use the opportunity.All COVID-19 SOPs were followed.
