Punjab Govt should keep marketing system intact in Punjab: Rupinder Kaur Ruby

Chandigarh, October 20: AAP MLA Rupinder Kaur Ruby on Tuesday said that the Punjab Government should ensure that the agricultural marketing regimen should be kept intact in Punjab, adding that that the government in the saddle, should instead of keeping MSP confined to wheat and paddy only, should extend it to all crops.

Rupinder Kaur Ruby said that as long as the loopholes in the procurement norms were not plugged, the exploitation of farmers at the hands of private buyers could not be stopped. She added that the government should renovate the canals in the state, exempt diesel from state tax and provide free electricity to small scale industries.

Senior leader and AAP MLA Principal Budhram said that the central black laws were aimed at turning farmers of Punjab from owners to mere tillers, saying that the successive Akali Dal, BJP and Congress governments in Punjab were squarely responsible for their plight. He added they were responsible for laying the foundation of the anti-farmers laws by amending the Mandi Act in 2005, then the Contract Farming Act in 2013 and again in 2017 by amending the APMP.

Govt should stop open ‘loot’ of cotton growers Malwa mandis: Prof Baljinder Kaur – 

AAP MLA Prof. Baljinder Kaur while speaking in the Assembly on Tuesday, said that what was significant in today’s session was what new pro-people could be brought in, which was why all eyes were riveted on the proceedings today. She said that Punjab government should ensure its own procurement of all crops at MSP instead of wheat and paddy. She suggested that the government should give import-export rights to its procurement agencies, including the Markfed, PUNSUP, Warehouse, Pungrain etc.

She said on the occasion that the cotton growers were being ‘looted’ in the Malwa mandis while those growing maize crop were being fleeced in the Doaba mandis, urging the government to immediately stop this opne ‘loot’.
