Chandigarh, September 4 – International Conference on Smart Packaging and Printed Electronics organized at Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University of Science and Technology Murthal, Sonepat in association with Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India and Offset Printers Association. As Chief Guest, Haryana Governor, Bandaru Dattatraya said that the need of the hour is to take steps towards making the country self-reliant by establishing quality in the field of electronics and technology.

A total of 7 countries including India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Indonesia and Greece participated in the International Conference held at DCRUST. Addressing the participants of the country and abroad, Governor Bandaru Dattatraya said that the business of smart packaging and printed electronics is continuously growing rapidly in the country. He said that according to an estimate, India’s printed electronics market stood at US$ 0.78 billion in 2021 and which is expected to touch US$ 3.11 billion by 2029.

The Governor said that we have to work together with complete honesty, social service and truth to make India a ‘Vishwa Guru’ again. India has also shown this during the time of Covid-19 pandemic. Many countries of the world used to think that India will have to take corona vaccine from any other countries, but our scientists with their strenuous efforts created a vaccine which helped the world to combat the consequences of Coronavirus.

Governor said that today more than 11 crore people of the country are associated with MSME sector. Therefore, under the leadership of Prime Minister, Sh. Narendra Modi, the central government is continuously working to promote micro, small and medium industries. The Central Government implemented the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme to provide financial assistance to MSME entrepreneurs in case of emergency. Under which the central government allocated a budget of Rs 3.5 lakh crore for MSMEs during the Corona period, as a result of which it helped in saving 1.5 crore jobs working in micro, small and medium industries at the time of Corona. Similarly, the global smart packaging market is expected to reach US$ 43.6 billion by 2027. In South Asia, India’s market share will be around 45 per cent by the end of 2031.

The Governor said that our food sector is also adopting connected packaging to ensure customer engagement along with providing product information by simply scanning a QR code. He said that smart packaging and printed electronics is a technology driven sector. He said it is noteworthy to share that the Government of India provides financial assistance to eligible industry associations to understand and adopt best technical practices from across the globe. During this, the Governor also released the book ‘Imprint of a Printer’ on the subject.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor, Prof Rajendra Kumar Anayath said that the work of printing as a technique of adding ink to paper on a substrate is already over. Now, scientists are looking for better value versions. The future of most electronics and digital systems will be through printed electronics. Nanoscience has helped us bring down almost all materials that can be deposited on select substrates in a controlled manner. So this way the cost of each production will be very less maybe in the next 5 years. Hence printed electronics electronics is going to take up many nano scale applications. So it is more restructured, renovated and it is going to play a huge role in the engineering and development in the times to come.
