DC reviews the preparedness of government machinery to check stubble burning

SAS Nagar, October 1 :
Mr. Amit Talwar, Deputy Commissioner, SAS Nagar today held a meeting for reviewing the problem of stubble burning in the District. Ms. Avneet Kaur, ADC(D), all the Sub-divisional Magistrates of the District, Environmental Engineer, PPCB,  Chief Agriculture Officer, and Officials of the Police Department were present at the meeting.
Disclosing this official spokesperson said that SDMs were directed to reach out to the villages where maximum incidents of fire have been reported in the past in order to reduce the incidents of stubble fire this year and ensure that the stubble burning incidents received from the Punjab Remote Sensing Centre (PRSC) are visited by the Nodal officers and Patwaris within 48 hours & updated on ATR application developed by PRSC. Red entries of the farmers engaged in stubble burning should be made in Khasra Girdawri. The police department was directed to launch FIR u/s 188 of IPC against the farmers who are found burning the stubble. Agriculture Department was directed to carry out awareness in the villages and persuade the farmers not to burn stubble. Punjab Pollution Control Board was directed to coordinate with all the stakeholder departments.
During the meeting it was informed by the Environmental Engineer, PPCB that in compliance with NGT orders Environmental Compensation amounting to Rs. 2500 per incident will be imposed for the site measuring less than 2 acres, amounting to Rs. 5000 per incident will be imposed for the site measuring 2-5 acres, amounting to Rs. 15000 per incident will be imposed for the site measuring more than 5 acres and prosecution of the farmer is to be done u/s 39 of Air (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 1981. It was informed that 87 no. Nodal Officers, 71 no. Patwaris and 35 no. Cluster Officers have been deputed in the District for monitoring stubble fire incidents. Environmental Engineer, PPCB informed that only one incident of stubble fire in this season in Derabassi subdivision has been reported in the district so far and challan has been issued in the concerned case.
