Doubling farmers income by 2022

Prof J P Sharma, Vice Chancellor SKUAST-J  put a point for adoption of income related activities for achieving the motive of doubling farmers’ income by 2022. He was chairing the 18th Scientific Advisory Committee meeting of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Jammu working under the administrative control of Sher-e Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and technology of Jammu. Prof J P Sharma suggested  KVK Jammu to check for more possibilities of sensor based irrigation system, conservation agriculture, increased fertilizer and water use efficiency modals  along with climate smart agriculture. Vice chancellor also advocated for promotion of various schemes of AtmaNirbhar Bharat during their awareness programme. Dr J P Sharma deliberated upon the creation of protected cultivation structures, integrated farming system and establishment of processing cum value addition unit at each KVK. Director ICAR-ATARI Zone I Ludhiana, Dr Rajbir Singh, took part through virtual mode in the meeting. In his words Dr Rajbir Singh felt so happy about the efforts of KVK Jammu and also suggested to work on Agri-Horticulture system with more focus on Animal Husbandry sector and adoption of Fisheries for sustainable and increased production in the district. At the outset, Director Extension, SKUAST-J, Dr S K Gupta,  welcomed all the district heads of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Sheep Husbandry, Fisheries, Forest, Lead bank, NABARD, Horticulture marketing etc. in the meeting and told that Scientific advisory committee meetings are held to check the progress report and finalize the annual action plan for the upcoming year.
Sr Scientist and Head KVK Jammu, Dr Punit Choudhary put forward the detailed overview of the activities conducted for the benefits of the farming community of Jammu district and also proposed annual action plan for the upcoming year. Dean FVSc & AH, Dr M S Bhadwal gave a suggestion for up-gradation of annual action plan of KVK Jammu and queries raised by officers of Animal Husbandry Department. Heads of the line departments had a conversation thoroughly and putforth their valuable suggestion during the meeting. Progressive farmers of Jammu region also shared their views during the meeting. Scientist Home Science, Dr Sheetal Badyal, conducted the proceeding of the meeting, whereas Scientist Horticulture, Dr Ravneet Kour recorded the proceedings.
The meeting concluded with vote of thanks by Dr Prem Kumar, Scientist Fisheries.
