Training for policemen to check authenticity of Aadhaar card

Workshop to be organised in all districts in next one month with help of UIDAI: Chief Secretary

Chandigarh, December 30: Haryana Chief Secretary, Sh. Sanjeev Kaushal said that a special workshop will be organised in all the districts of the state in the next one month for training and awareness purposes of the policemen to check the authenticity or wrong information in Aadhaar card. The Chief Secretary held an important meeting with the state government and UIDAI officials here today. He said that in these workshops, which will be organized in collaboration with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the deputy commissioners, superintendents of police or their representatives will be trained to verify the authenticity of Aadhaar cards by the UIDAI experts.

Sh. Sanjeev Kaushal said that in this workshop, proper information will also be given about the process of re-verifying the address of citizens having 10 years old Aadhaar and making new cards for persons who are 18 years or more.

Update Citizen POI and POA in Aadhaar details

The Chief Secretary urged the Aadhaar holders, who have not updated their Aadhaar in the last 8 years, to update Aadhaar online through ‘myAadhaar portal’ or ‘mAadhaar App’ or offline by visiting the nearest Aadhaar centre with valid supporting documents of identity and address proof. He said that the purpose of this activity being done by the UIDAI to update 10 years old Aadhaar cards as per the instructions of the central government is only aimed at anti-social elements who are taking any kind of advantage of the Aadhaar details in any manner.

He informed that so far 54 suspicious cases related to the authenticity of Aadhaar have come to the UIDAI, out of which necessary action has been taken on 14 and their Aadhaar has been deactivated. On 37, the verification process is going on. Sh. Sanjeev Kaushal said that in the last decade, Aadhaar card has emerged as a universally accepted proof of identity of residents in India. It is in the interest of the residents to keep their Aadhaar updated with current proof of identity and proof of address. A large number of central and state government schemes and financial institutions such as banks and NBFCs use Aadhaar to authenticate and onboard customers, he added.

The Chief Secretary urged the residents to update their mobile number and email ID in Aadhaar details and also the mandatory biometric update for children between the age of 5 and 15 years. In the meeting, Deputy Director General, UIDAI, Regional Office, Chandigarh, Bhavna Garg apprised that the citizens whose Aadhaar cards have been issued for more than 10 years and have not made any changes or updates in it; such citizens must update their Aadhaar cards. She said that if any case comes before the policemen, in which it is necessary to check the authenticity of the Aadhaar card; they can primarily scan the QR code printed on the Aadhaar card and get its information.

Additional Chief Secretary, Industries and Commerce, Sh. Anand Mohan Sharan, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Sh. V. Umashankar, Director General of Police, Sh. PK Aggarwal and Director of Information Technology, Electronics and Communication Department, Sh. Yash Garg and other senior officials were present during the meeting.
