Chandigarh, 13 October:
The NSS units of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Sector 36-A, Chandigarh, organised Amrit Kalash Yatra under the aegis of ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh, Mitti Ko Naman Veeron Ka Vandan’ Campaign, Government of India. The initiative aimed to pay tribute to our Motherland and honour the nation’s martyrs and their unconditional dedication to our nation’s strength and progress. The event began with great enthusiasm as NSS volunteers carried their beautifully adorned pots and soil to the residence of the principal of the college. The principal of the college, Dr. Nisha Bhargava also added soil to the Amrit Kalash and lauded the students for their efforts. The Yatra then proceeded to the nearest Police Station at Sector 36-A, Chandigarh wherein soil was added to the pots by the Police Officers. Col. S. Ravinder Singh Saini, who has served 31 years in the army, graced the event and applauded the volunteers for their energetic and passionate participation. He motivated the students to be active with volunteering and urged them to perform to the best of their abilities in every task. The event culminated with Amrit Kalash being brought back to the college. The Amrit Kalash will then be sent to the Amrit Vatika, New Delhi for the soil to be consolidated. Dr. Nisha Bhargava said that “Meri Maati Mera Desh” endeavors to immortalize the contribution of the unsung heroes of the freedom struggle. This Amrit Kalash Yatra paid homage to the unsung heroes who sacrificed their lives for the nation and inspire us to contribute towards building a New Bharat.
