The NSS Units of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Sector 36-A, Chandigarh, in collaboration with the Department of Home Science of the college, organized a “Khadi Bag Making” workshop. Khadi is one of the symbols of our freedom struggle and the workshop aimed at channeling the creativity of students in a productive way to sensitize the youth towards the uses of Khadi and also inculcate pride in our heritage. Resource person, Ms Rati Arora, Assistant Professor, Department of Home Science, initiated the workshop wherein the participants learned the skill of making Khadi tote bags, thereby reinforcing the skill-oriented initiatives envisioned by the Government of India to empower the youth. It was attended by 25 students. The workshop included a briefing on the government’s initiatives towards promoting local artisans in the Khadi industry. It was followed by a pledge to promote the use of locally-made products. Principal of the college, Dr. Nisha Bhargava appreciated the efforts and motivated the students to follow the footprints of Mahatma Gandhi. She added that Khadi is not just a piece of cloth but a symbol of India’s self-sufficiency, economic empowerment, and unity.
