Online technology has brought a revolution in agricultural business – Harchand Singh Barsat

— 17000 stakeholders participated in e-NAM training program.

E-NAM (Electronic National Agriculture Market) is an online trading platform, which facilitates online transaction of agricultural commodities to farmers, traders, FPOs and other stakeholders. This was expressed by S. Harchand Singh Barsat, Chairman Punjab Mandi Board during the conclusion of 79 e-NAM training program. He said that e-NAM training programs are being organized continuously to spread awareness among stakeholders in the state under which 2 rounds of stakeholders training were conducted from 29 November in 79 e-NAM APMCs in which around 17000 stakeholders have been participated.

Harchand Singh Barsat said that presently, 79 Principal yards of the state of Punjab have been integrated with e-NAM portal in which 217491 farmers, 2906 Traders, 8966 Commission agents and 39 FPOs of Punjab trading in various  agricultural commodities like Potato, Basmati, Maize, Kinnow, Green Moong, Cotton, Green Peas, Capsicum, Melon, Lychee, Sunflower, Onion etc have been registered. Till date a trade of 35.87 LMT worth Rs 11755 cr has been recorded on e-NAM in the state of Punjab. He said that farmers are now accepting payments for their produce via e-Payments as they are finding it very convenient to get the desired amount settled in very short interval of time. The state government has recorded 1331.40 lakhs of e-Payments in current financial year.

He further informed that the government is focusing on Interstate trade through e-NAM. The state has initiated Interstate trade with J&K, Haryana, Jharkhand and Maharashtra. Recently, traders of Punjab bought 1635 MT of onion worth Rs.3.10 Cr from Nasik through interstate trade. He said that the government is planning to sell Musk Melon & Kinnow to other states and purchase apple from J&K and Himachal Pradesh through Interstate trade.
