Panjab University, Chandigarh celebrated the Republic Day with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm at the University campus.

PU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Renu Vig was the Chief Guest of the function. She unfurled the national flag at the Parade Ground. It was followed by the inspection of the Guard of Honour comprising the contingents of PU Security Staff, PU NCC boys & Girls cadets, NSS, Ankur School and Guru Gobind Singh Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, Ratwara Sahib.

While felicitating the gathering, Vice Chancellor Prof Renu Vig in her address stated that  as we celebrate Republic Day, we remember all those who made sacrifices in their life for making India independent. ‘Republic Day’ marks the celebration of the empowerment of Indian citizens to elect our own government. In other words, this day is an occasion to commemorate the values of our democracy and Republic, to reaffirm our commitment to liberty, fraternity and equality across our society and among all our citizens.

Earlier, Prof. Y.P.Verma, Registrar, PU in his welcome address, urged all to work for the betterment of Panjab University and take University to the greater heights.

On this occasion, PU employees namely  Dharam Pal, Sr. Assistant, Nitin Sharma, Sr. Assistant, Rohit Ahuja, Assistant Section Officer, Desh Raj, Sr. Assistant, Rohit Sood, Assistant Section Officer, Gurcharan Singh, Meter Reader,  Trilok Singh, Superintendent, Pooja Rani, Sr. Assistant, Lalit Mohan, Daftri,  Late Sh. Subhash Chander Tewari, Deputy Registrar, Ram Kumar, Temp. Cleaner, Vijender Parshad, Sr. Technician(G-II),    Sh. Bhagwan Singh, Peon (D.W.), Raj Kumar, Junior Technician(G-III), Roshan Singh, Cleaner (D.W.), Shamsher Singh, Helper/Beldar (D.W.),Bel Bahadur, Security Guard, Swappan Middye, Technical Officer (G-I), Mamta Rani, Clerk (D.W.), Nek Ram, Security Guard (D.W.), Satish Ram, Security Guard (D.W.), Paramjit Singh, Sr. Assistant and Sh. Ajay Sharma,  Clerk (D.W.) were felicitated with cash award, commendation certificate and memento in recognition of their distinguished services.

Colourful cultural program enthralled the audience. It started with a patriotic song by the students of PU Music Department. It was followed by Dance by students of Ankur School and Punjabi Dance Bhangra by GGSVM Sr. Sec. School, Ratwara Sahib.

All senior officials of PU, Senate and Syndicate members, PUTA President, faculty, students and their families were present on the occasion.
