The Entrepreneurship and Incubation Cell (EIC) in collaboration with Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) of Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh today organized a lecture on “Deep Tech Entrepreneurship” on 7th February, 2024. The chief guest, resource person and keynote speaker of the program was Dr. Deepak Jain, Assistant Professor, IIT Delhi. He’s working on semiconductor and fiber based photonic devices at the Optics and Photonic center, IIT Delhi. Director of PEC, Prof. (Dr.) Baldev Setia graced the occasion with his esteemed presence. The event started off with formal felicitation and welcome of the chief guest Dr. Deepak Jain by the esteemed Director, Prof. (Dr.) Baldev Setia along with Prof. Arun Kumar Singh, HoD ECE; Dr. Simranjit Singh, Coordinator EIC; Dr. Sudesh Rani, Co-coordinator EIC. All the members of faculty and the students of the institute were present at this moment.
Dr. Simranjit Singh (Coordinator of EIC) introduced the Entrepreneurship and Incubation Cell (EIC) to the audience present. He talked about the various events along with the E-Summit organized by this cell of the institute. This cell had incubated 5 international companies, 6 startups, MoU’s in collaboration with different departments of the institute and PEC Alumni to organize a variety of events and to create an ecosystem. This cell is also going to start the PEC Alumni Talk Series.
Director of PEC, Prof. (Dr.) Baldev Setia, congratulated the EIC team for hosting this program. He welcomed Dr. Deepak Jain at the PEC Campus. He talked about the Innovation, by citing examples from the life history and innovative works of Thomas Alva Edison. He inspired the young students with the quotes of Thomas A Edison, “Genius is 99% perspiration and 1% inspiration”. He said we have to focus on being simple in a complicated manner. At last, he congratulated the coordinators and the whole team for arranging this session on Entrepreneurship.
Furthermore, the resource person and keynote speaker of the event Dr. Deepak Jain shared various successful and renowned entrepreneurial examples. He captivated and educated the audience, by exploring the synergy between Advanced Technology and Entrepreneurial initiatives. He motivated the audience to go for startups. He shared the strategies of how to initiate your startup journey. From inspiration from success stories of university startups to raising funds, to do the initial groundwork, publication, team building and then accelerating the program further. Along with this, he said that we must try in every kind of situation. Lastly, he answered the various questions asked by students in a very attentive and invaluable manner with examples of recent times.
Lastly, the session ended with a vote of thanks presented by Dr. Sudesh Rani, Co-coordinator of EIC. Overall it was a very insightful, valuable and educational session.
