Dr. Sharma Warns: If Not Unveiled Within 72 Hours, Punjab’s Youth Will Take Action
Chandigarh, 28 November 2024
Dr. Subhash Sharma, Vice President of the Punjab BJP, today criticized the Mann government for its failure to unveil the statue of Shaheed Bhagat Singh at the Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh International Airport in Mohali, despite it being wrapped in cloth for the last six months. Dr. Sharma expressed concern that the Mann government has shown no urgency to inaugurate the statue, even as thousands of passengers pass through the airport daily.
He also thanked the Union Government for naming the airport after the legendary martyr, a move that was championed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, Dr. Sharma expressed disappointment with the state government’s inaction.
Addressing the media, Dr. Sharma questioned Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s commitment to the legacy of Bhagat Singh, pointing out the irony of the Chief Minister’s rhetoric about the revolutionary while wearing a turban styled like Shaheed Bhagat Singh’s. “It is shocking that, despite his professed reverence for Bhagat Singh, the CM is neglecting the unveiling of his statue,” said Dr. Sharma. The people, especially the youth of Punjab, are growing impatient. They want to see the statue of their beloved martyr, not just hear empty promises.”
Dr. Sharma gave the Punjab Government an ultimatum, stating that if the statue is not unveiled within 72 hours, the youth of Punjab, along with the public, will take matters into their own hands and inaugurate the statue themselves.
At the press conference, senior BJP leaders including Kewal Singh Dhillon, Fateh Bajwa, Vineet Joshi, Mohali BJP President Sanjeev Vashisht, and others were present.
