Chandigarh, December 2

Haryana Chief Minister, Manohar Lal said that former Deputy Chief Minister of Haryana, Dr. Mangal Sen was an epitome of simplicity. The Chief Minister addressed an event organised at Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak on the 31st death anniversary of Mangal Sen through video conferencing today. This programme was organised under the auspices of Dr. Mangal Sen Shodhpeeth. During the programme, the Chief Minister also released the book titled, ‘Rajnitik Evam Samajik Nayak’. The Chief Minister also announced a contribution of Rs 11 lakh for Dr. Mangal Sen Shodhpeeth on the occasion.

While remembering Dr. Mangal Sen, the Chief Minister said that Dr. Sen had been contributing for the society his entire life. He further added that Dr Sen had set such high standards in political and social life that only by following his footsteps can a tribute be offered to him. Sharing his experiences, the Chief Minister described him as a guardian of nationalism, culture, and Bhisham Pitamah of politics. He further said that Dr. Mangal Sen was a peoples’ leader. He used to commute on a two-wheeler to enquire about the sufferings of people. Dr. Sen was born in an average family and he started his political career as a Jansangh worker after going through a lot of hardships. Sharing more anecdotes he said that it is the effect of his magnetic personality that after entering into an alliance with Chaudhary Devi Lal’s party, the government came to power by winning 85 of 90 seats in the state following which he became the Deputy Chief Minister of the state in that government. He was the first person to discharge this duty in Haryana.

He said that Dr. Mangal Sen played a pivotal role in setting up several large educational institutions, including Lal Nath College of Rohtak or the Medical College, in fact, he was instrumental in establishing these institutes. He worked for the upliftment of society as a bachelor his entire life.

The Chief Minister said that Dr. Mangal Sen left an indelible mark on the minds of people of Rohtak. Mr. Manohar Lal saw him for the first time at a public meeting. He further added that he won the elections seven times of the nine times he contested them. Moreover, the two times he lost the elections was by a very small margin. His life is very inspiring for people. The Chief Minister said that when he was a RSS Pracharak in Yamunanagar the sad news of his demise was received on the evening of December 2, 1990.

While paying homage to Mangal Sen, Vice Chancellor of Maharshi Dayanand University, Professor Rajbir Singh highlighted the work done by him. Former Minister Manish Grover, representatives of peeth from Chandigarh, besides the heads of departments and scholars of several departments of the university were also present on the occasion.
