Haryana Municipal Corporation Elections: Reserved posts

In the upcoming elections of three Municipal Corporations, one Council and three Committees which will be held on December 27, 2020, the post of Mayor in the Ambala Municipal Corporation has been reserved for women. Besides this, the post of President of Sampla Municipal Committee has been reserved for Women belonging to Scheduled Caste category and the post of President in Rewari Municipal Council has also been reserved for any candidate belonging to Backward Classes.
Haryana State Election Commissioner, Dr. Dalip Singh, while sharing this information during a press conference held here today said that the post of Mayor in the upcoming Panchkula and Sonipat Municipal Corporation elections will remain unreserved. However, the posts of President in Municipal Committees of Dharuhera (Rewari) and Ukalana (Hisar) will also remain unreserved.
Dr. Singh further added that the seats of Mayor in Corporations and President in Council and Committees will now be filled up through direct elections. Whereas earlier these seats were being filled up from amongst the elected members of the concerned municipality. However, the seats of Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the Corporations and Vice President of the Council and Committees shall be filled up as per earlier practice that is through indirect election from amongst the elected members of the municipality concerned.
