Gaushalas should be developed to be self-sustainable by setting up solar power plants, bio-gas plants and by generating organic fertilizers: Jai Prakash Dalal
Chandigarh, January 19: Haryana Animal Husbandry and Dairying Minister, Jai Parkash Dalal has said that cow shelters (gaushalas) should be developed to be self-sustainable by setting up solar power plants, bio-gas plants and by generating organic fertilizers in the Gaushalas across the State.
J P Dalal emphasized this while presiding over 18th meeting of Haryana Gau Seva Aayog here today.
In order to convert cow dung into organic fertilizer, the Minister urged the members of Gau Seva Aayog and owners to adopt the method of vermi-composting by developing required pits for composting at the respective gaushalas so that the Horticulture Department could purchase this generated amount of organic manure and further use it to promote organic farming.
In the meeting, it was apprised that about 624 Gaushalas are operating in the state, in which about 4.50 lakh cows are being sheltered. Dalal informed that in the first phase, solar power plants were set up in 335 gaushalas. He said that in the second phase, solar plants would be set up in around 225 gaushalas in the State.
For proper care of destitute cows, the Minister instructed the officials of Urban Local Bodies and Rural Development Department to maintain the capacity of Gaushalas according to the number of destitute cows. He further instructed the officials to conduct mapping of Gaushalas in the entire state. He asserted to review the activities in the Gaushalas.
Among those present in the meeting included Additional Chief Secretary, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Department, Raja Sekhar Vundru, Haryana Gau Seva Aayog Chairman, Sarvan Kumar Garg, Secretary, Dr. Kalyan Singh, Members of Haryana Gau Seva Aayog and other officers of various departments.
