Dushyant Chautala gives instructions for increased development and employment in Haryana

Chandigarh, January 21: Haryana Deputy Chief Minister, Dushyant Chautala directed the officers to get the retaining-wall of ponds, Gau-ghat, Prayer-ground for students in large schools, and PT Grounds constructed, planting of saplings along the national highways, repairing and maintaining sub-yards in mandis, and strengthening of connecting roads in the villages using broken bricks under MGNREGA. With this, the area will be developed and the labourers will get employment.

The Deputy Chief Minister, who also holds the portfolio of Development and Panchayats Department and Rural Development Department, Chaired the 6th Meeting of ‘Haryana State Employment Guarantee Council’ today and reviewed the work to be done under MNREGA. He appreciated the officers for performing well and hoped that by the end of the current financial year, Rs 1,000 crore is expected be spent on MGNREGA works.

Dushyant Chautala, who is also the Chairman of the Haryana State Employment Guarantee Council, directed that all CEOs to monitor the grievances regarding MGNREGA cases weekly and redress them as soon as possible.

It was informed in the meeting that under the MGNREGA scheme, the Haryana budget was increased from 100 lakh working days to 140 lakh working days on the achievement of works in the current financial year and then revised to 146 lakh working days on January 5, 2021 which is about two and a half times more as compared to the previous year. In the current financial year, till January 20, 2021, Rs 722.39 crore has been spent under the MGNREGA scheme, while there is a possibility of disbursing wages of Rs 1,000 crore to eligible MGNREGA workers by March 31, 2021.

While giving detailed information about the works to be done under the scheme, the officers apprised that various works including construction of Gram Panchayat buildings, drought, flood control and rescue works, land improvement, micro irrigation, development of playgrounds, repair of traditional water bodies, rural connectivity, drinking water supply, water conservation works and construction of cattle sheds for the cattle of the poor among other various other development words were undertaken. Of these, 8716 works have been completed so far while 24,664 works are in progress.

After reviewing the expenditure made under MGNREGA by various departments including Irrigation and Water Resources Department, Public Health Engineering Department, Education Department, Public Works (Buildings and Roads) Department, Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board, Woman and Child Development Department, Forest Department, Animal Husbandry Department, Agriculture Department and Horticulture Department, the Deputy Chief Minister directed all officers  of the concerned department to get more work done under MGNREGA.

He also reviewed the social-audit of panchayats under the scheme; it was informed that in the first phase 659 gram panchayats underwent social-audit and in the second phase 753 gram panchayats underwent social-audit while 1485 gram panchayats will undergo social-audit in the third phase till March 31, 2021.

On the occasion, Additional Chief Secretary, Irrigation and Water Resources Department, Devender Singh, Additional Chief Secretary, Women and Child Development Department, Amit Jha, Additional Chief Secretary, Finance and Planning Department, TVSN Prasad, Additional Chief Secretary, Development and Panchayats Department, Sudhir Rajpal, Additional Chief Secretary, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Department, Raja Sekhar Vundru, Principal Secretary, Forests and Wildlife Department, G. Anupama, Director General, Women and Child Development Department, Renu S. Phulia, Director General, Rural Development Department, Hardeep Singh and other senior officers were present.
