Haryana and Punjab DGPs meet to strategise on combating organized crime in the region
Chandigarh, March 25: A joint conference of senior police officers from Haryana, Punjab, and Union Territory of Chandigarh was held at Panchkula to discuss various issues and challenges to tackle organized crime in the region.
The conference was jointly presided over by DGP Haryana, Manoj Yadava and DGP Punjab, Dinkar Gupta which was also attended by senior functionaries of Chandigarh Police, where emphasis was laid on creating an institutional mechanism to effectively coordinate, create common database, and sharing of information in real time to curb organized crime.
The conference was attended by Director General of Police Crime Haryana, Mohd. Akil, ADGP (Law & Order) Haryana, Navdeep Singh Virk, IGP STF Haryana, Amitabh Dhillon, CP Panchkula, Saurabh Singh, DIG STF Haryana, Sateesh Balan, ADGP (Internal Security, Punjab), RN Dhoke, DIG Chandigarh, Omvir Singh, SSP Chandigarh, Kuldeep Singh Chahal, DCP Panchkula, Mohit Handa and other senior police officers from Haryana, Punjab, and Chandigarh.
Speaking on this occasion, DGP Haryana, Manoj Yadava said that holding such coordination meetings would certainly be helpful in keeping tabs on criminal activity of interstate gangsters, detection of crime, and more importantly sharing of information in real time. He suggested that telephone numbers of police officials at all levels should also be shared in making better coordination and strategies to prevent and detect inter-state crime. He also underlined how the use of social media platforms by dreaded gangsters and their hideouts in foreign countries is a challenge to nab them.
In his opening address, DGP Punjab, Dinkar Gupta thanked his Haryana counterpart for hoisting and organizing inter-state conference on such a topic of serious nature. He said that a system should be created where any information pertaining to organized crime could be shared immediately to nab such criminals. He also expressed views on a number of possible areas for action in this direction.
In the meeting, a lot of emphasis was laid on joint strategies for sharing real time information to combat organized crime. This would go a long way in increasing mutual coordination amongst the police of the region. On the basis of this strategy, an action plan would be prepared which would set out concrete measures to achieve these priorities.
The officers also discussed the activities of inter-state criminal gangs and exchange their details.
