Seven private hospitals in the district ordered to reserve at least 50% beds for COVID patients
SAS Nagar, April 16, 2021 Re-assuring the public that there is no reason to panic as there are sufficient COVID care beds in Mohali, Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan informed that formal orders have been issued so that as a cautionary measure at least 50% beds are reserved for covid patients in private hospitals. Seven hospitals which have been assessed by experts to have provided quality COVID care in the past including Max, Fortis, Ivy, Indus, Sohana, Grecian and Mayo have been directed for compliance, said he.
He said that the district possesses minimal public health infrastructure, given that the District Hospital is under re-construction as a Medical College – which will take time, most of the ICU beds/ ventilators (L2/L3 i.e. Tertiary Care) are in the Private Sector. So, in view of the emergent nature and potential magnitude of the pandemic and for the purpose of assisting, protecting or providing relief to the community and to put in place measures for provision of proper medical care for the COVID19 positive/ suspected cases in the district, the seven aforesaid hospitals have been directed to set aside atleast 50% of their total bed capacity as isolation beds and wards for COVID care. These hospitals shall also put certain ambulances exclusively attending to COVID19 patients/ suspected cases.
Besides, no Private hospital in the district shall refuse admission/ treatment to patients of COVID19 referred by the Civil Surgeon, Mohali. These hospitals shall ensure that staff – doctors, nurses, and paramedics etc. are all available on duty and no one shall refuse treatment to COVID19 positive/ suspected cases. The management of these hospitals shall be held personally responsible for compliance of these directions.
Failure to adhere to these directions shall attract criminal penalty as per the provisions of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 an
