Vaccine the only way to get back to normal: Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer
Chandigarh, May 9 , 2021
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA and Youth Wing president Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer said that the vaccine was the only way to get back to normal and requested the people of Punjab to come forward and get the necessary doses. In a statement issued from the party headquarters here on Sunday, Meet Hayer said that the vaccine was necessary to help everyone to bring down the mortality, and secondly, bring down the number of Covid-19 cases. He said that the vaccination of a significant number of people, with those who have developed immunity naturally because they have had the disease, will help us acquire herd immunity.
Appealing the youngsters for the vaccine, Hayer said that with the beginning of vaccination for 18+, the youngsters must come forward to get their doses. He said that the construction workers, teachers, government employees and those with co-morbidities as high-risk individuals in the 18-45 age group should go for vaccination on priority. “The governments have already caused delays in procurement and any hesitation or suspicion on part of the public will worsen the situation,” he added. Hayer said that the Captain government needs to lay out a plan for the program, especially for the rural areas. “Neither the state has enough doses, nor enough vaccination centres and any further delays could be fatal with the warnings of a third wave,” he said.
The AAP leader further said that the Captain government should make expeditious arrangements for free vaccination for the people so that they could be immune from the Covid-19 virus and its complications. Hayer said that Captain Amarinder Singh-led Congress government of the state had failed to provide health services and save lives in the state during the ongoing pandemic. He said that the new strain of Covid virus was spreading rapidly in the entire country including Punjab, which was also affecting the youth; but neither the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led centre government nor Captain Amarinder Singh’s government in Punjab had made proper arrangements for the treatment of the Covid victims. He further said that the mortality rate of Covid victims in Punjab was 2.4 per cent, which was much higher than the average death rate of the entire country. He requested the people not to be anxious and take their dose of Covid vaccine.
Hayer said that hoarding and black marketing of essential Covid-19 medicines, drugs, vaccines and even oxygen cylinders was also rampant with the Punjab government failing to crackdown on the same. He termed it as incompetence of the Captain Amarinder Singh-led government to tackle the situation in the state amid the Covid outbreak by not coming up with better infrastructure and health facilities after the first wave that hit last year.
