Haryana Police to start special drive to avert hooch tragedy

Chandigarh, May 31 – Haryana Police has decided to launch a special fortnight long drive to prevent and detect the manufacture, sale and smuggling of illicit liquor in the state to prevent any potential hooch tragedy. The drive will start from June 1 and will continue upto June 15.

          Disclosing this here today, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), Haryana, Sh. Navdeep Singh Virk said that police has devised a multi-pronged strategy and strict action would be taken against those brewing illicit liquor or smuggling in the state. Sh. Virk further said that as a part of the strategy all the Commissioners of Police and district Superintendents of Police have been instructed to deploy additional intelligence sources and create special teams to keep vigil against liquor smuggling, bootlegging and illicit distillation of liquor under their jurisdiction. Police will also liaise with Excise Department officials to conduct joint checking at district and sub-division level. In addition, activities  of past offenders of such nature would also be monitored.
