SHIMLA JUNE 4, 2021:
A Spokesperson of the Health Department said here today that inappropriate use of Remedesivir has created an artificial crisis of Remdesivir stock in the market. Therefore it is the need of the hour to ensure judicious use of Remdesivir. In view of this, the State Clinical Team had come up with recommendations and it has been suggested that Remdesivir may be considered only in patients with moderate to severe Covid-19 cases requiring supplemental oxygen and has no medical history of kidney or liver dysfunction. He said that the patients who receive this drug should be within 10 days of onset of Covid disease.
He said that it is not to be used in patients who are not on oxygen support or are in home settings. Remdesivir can be administered only in a hospital setting. He said that it is to be noted that not all Covid-19 patients qualify for use of Remdesivir. A Remdesivir audit committee should be established in every DCHC and DCH who will take a shared decision on a case-to-case basis and the directions to this effect have been given to all the Covid treatment facility incharges. He urged the public not to attempt to procure or administer Remdesivir at home. As far as the availability of Remdesivir is concerned, as per the data uploaded in the covidcapacity portal by the individual facility incharges, a total of 8970 vials of Remdesivir are available currently in various facilities in the State.
