Chandigarh, June 9: On the occasion of World Environment Day, ‘Plant Trees Campaign’ was launched by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Panchkula of Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, in which people of nearby villages including Center’s research farm, Garinda, participated enthusiastically.

During the World Environment Day and plantation program organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Panchkula, Dr. Sridevi, the coordinator of the center, was the chief guest and the head of Garinda village, Sh. Lakhmi Singh was the special guest.

Dr. Sridevi, a botanical and plant science expert, said that it is very important to save trees and plants to save the atmosphere. She said that due to pollution and climate change there is a threat to the existence of mankind. Since last two years we are facing COVID-19 pandemic and victims have to struggle between life and death due to lack of oxygen, she added. She said that trees are the main natural source of oxygen and if we want a healthy life then it is very important to plant more and more trees and plants. To keep the environment clean, we all have to come forward and plant more and more saplings so that we do not face shortage of life-saving oxygen, she added. She said that the plants planted today will make our tomorrow better and every person should take a pledge to plant saplings.

On this occasion, Dr. Ravindra while welcoming all the farmers called for saving the environment and said that it has become necessary that we should plant saplings on a large scale.

Agriculture Economist, Dr. Gurnam Singh while speaking on the occasion said that along with traditional farming, agro-forestry should be promoted in the state, which would not only increase the income of the farmers but also save the environment. Similarly, Agriculture expert, Dr. Vandana while emphasizing on the planting of medicinal plants said that medicinal plants have great importance in Ayurvedic system of medicine and the role of medicinal plants and herbs in making various types of medicines is incomparable.

Horticulture expert, Dr. Rajesh Lather said that fruit plants not only protect the environment but also ensure nutritional and food security. He said that farmers can also earn more income by planting fruit trees. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Gajendra Singh emphasized on agricultural diversification and appealed to the people to save the natural resources.

Apart from the officers and employees of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Panchkula many dignitaries of the area were present during the programme.
