KARGIL, JUNE 16, 2021: Executive Councilor for Agriculture Mohsin Ali took a review meeting of various works undertaken by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) and Mountain Agriculture Research & Extension Station, SKUAST, Kargil at the Council Secretariat here today.
Senior Scientist, KVK, Kargil Dr Ghulam Mehdi Akhone, Senior Scientist, Mountain Research and Extension Station, Kargil, Dr Faizan Ahmad besides other concerned officers were present during the meeting.
During the course of the meeting, the concerned officers informed the EC that different measures have been taken by the KVK and MARES for the benefit of the farming community under different schemes, particularly focusing on beneficiary oriented schemes during the year 2021-2022.
The EC Agriculture was further informed that as regards to the achievements of KVK Kargil during 2020-2021, numerous notable activities were done as such the evaluation of apple root stalk for daughter plant, evaluation of cherry germplasm under cold arid region, evaluation of sweet corn hybrids pertaining to the climatic conditions of Kargil, HY Barley PL 807, black pea followed by maize seed production of nontraditional vegetables such as Swiss chard & Siberian kale.
Moreover, resource conservation of Alfa Alfa for vegetable cultivation using mulching demonstration of non-traditional crops, water melon Hybrid Sultan, HY musk melon KMM-2 (Oblong) and introduction of kitchen gardening in nontraditional family were among other activities, the officers concerned informed.
Regarding the targets achieved by the MARES, Kargil during the year 2020-2021, EC Mohsin was informed that many activities were done by the station which included among others the improvement of drying technology of apricot, varietal replacement production technology of crops, codling moth management technology, standardization of propagation techniques and quality planting material production in fruit crops, standardization of fertilizer doses in wheat barley and curtain vegetables, concept of moisture conservation, concept of low tunnel technology and trench technology.
Executive Councilor Agriculture instructed the concerned officers to conduct more training programmes to the farmers and provide agricultural tools and kits as well, particularly focusing on far flung areas of the district so that maximum income generation can be enabled to such farmers and beneficiaries through the adoption of the latest scientific skills and technology.
