Raj Kumar Verka should apologise for lying about regularisation of sanitation workers: Lal Chand Kataruchakk
Failing to apologise, Aam Aadmi Party will gherao Verka’s residence in Amritsar
Amritsar, June 25 2021
Criticizing Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh for not heeding the demands of the sanitation workers of Punjab, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) stated that Captain Amarinder’s promise to regularise the sanitation workers had once again proved to be a bundle of lies. Addressing the media during a press conference held here on Friday, senior AAP leader and incharge Payal constituency, Manwinder Singh Giaspura and party’s SC Wing state president and incharge Bhoa constituency Lal Chand Kataruchakk, said that Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had betrayed the safai karamcharis like other sections of Punjab, as the Chief Minister had reneged on his promise, made to the sanitation workers union leaders to regularise the contractual workers.
Lal Chand Kataruchakk said that the Captain Amarinder Singh-led Congress government had betrayed the Dalits at every step. He said that the Captain government had rigged the post-matric scholarships to ruin the future of Dalit students, had not given promotions to employees and also avoided implementing the 85th amendment. He said that the contractual sanitation workers working under the local bodies all over Punjab had been fighting for their demands for a long time and had started a strike. “Due to this there are piles of garbage in every street, locality and corner in the cities of Punjab and there is a danger of spreading diseases,” he added. He alleged that Captain Amarinder Singh had promised the leaders of the Safai Karamchari Union to regularise the contractual sanitation workers and comply with other demands, but Captain did not fulfill his promise.
Manwinder Singh Giaspura said that Captain Amarinder Singh should learn from the Delhi’s Arvind Kejriwal government which had provided all facilities to the sanitation workers and implemented various schemes for them. He said that the modern machinery was being used to clean the sewerage drains in Delhi, so that no sanitation worker would suffer any loss. The AAP leaders said that Congress MLA Raj Kumar Verka should apologise for lying to the workers and immediately resign from the Assembly and the Congress party; as Verka had tried to mislead the people of Punjab by assuring the sanitation workers for regularisation and their other demands. “However, the reality is that Captain has not given any justice to the sanitation workers, but only false hopes” they added. The leaders said that if MLA Raj Kumar Verka did not apologize to all the sanitation workers, then the Aam Aadmi Party would gherao Verka’s residence in Amritsar.
