CEO, Punjab sets the ball rolling for special drive to register and make correction as Voters

Chandigarh, August 19, 2020: Special Summary Revision, a special drive to revise the electoral roll, giving an opportunity to citizens to register themselves as voters and also to verify their electoral details has been initiated by the Office of Chief Electoral officer (CEO), Punjab. To ensure strict compliance as per the guidelines of Elections Commission of India (ECI), the CEO, Punjab today held a virtual meeting (through Goggle Meet) with all the field officers comprising of EROs, AEROs and Election Tehsildars.

The qualifying date for Special Summary Revision is 01.01.2021 i.e. those who have completed or will be completing the age of 18 on or before date 01.01.2021 will be eligible to enrol as new voters. The Special Summary Revision starts with the draft publication of electoral roll or the voter list. The exercise of removal of all logical address, Demographic Similar Entries (DSEs) and standardisation of address, checking quality of photographs as well as removal of discrepancies in EPICs (Voter Cards) are to be completed before the draft publication.

“This mega drive gives electors an opportunity to self-authenticate and get mistakes rectified, if any, besides providing opportunity to all eligible citizens to enroll as voters. The outbreak of COVID-19 has posed some real challenges, but we are confident that our committed team of personnel at the ground level will find a way out utilizing technology in best possible manner”, said, Dr. S. Karuna Raju, CEO, Punjab.

Ms. Madhvi Kataria, Additional CEO, Punjab highlighted the schedule as laid down by the ECI and directed all the personnel to strictly comply with guidelines as per the timeline. In addition, Ms. Kataria also emphasized on the ongoing Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) urged all the officials to ensure a record registration of voters with special emphasis on first time voters, persons with disability, third gender, migrant workers etc.

The field officers were directed to dispose off Claims and Objections received upto 31.08.2020 by 10.092020 and complete the rationalization (decreasing the number of electors per polling station from 1500 to 1000) of Polling Station by 15.12.2020.

The eligible citizens can submit their registration from at wwwnvsp.in portal or apply through Voter Helpline App. The final electoral roll (Voter list) will be published on 15.01.2021
