Div Com Biswas chairs COVID control meet in Ladakh

Leh, Aug 22: Keeping in view the concern of a sudden rise in Covid-19 cases in Ladakh, Divisional Commissioner Ladakh Saugat Biswas chaired an officers level meeting to discuss various crucial measures required to take to contain the spread of the pandemic.

Deputy Commissioner Kargil Baseer-ul-Haq Chaudhary, Additional Deputy Commissioner Leh Dr. Zahida Bano, SSP Leh Rajiv Pandey, Chief Medical Officers of Leh and Kargil, Director Airport Authority of India Leh, Assistant Directors of Information Department Leh and Kargil, District Surveillance Officers of Leh and Kargil and Nodal Officer COVID Control Room Leh Dr Thinles and concerned officers were also present during the meeting. The officers of Kargil participated through video conferencing.

The meeting deliberated in detail on various aspects including measures to be taken for the incoming population consisting mainly of labourers and other business-related officials, and locals. Direction was given to conduct Rapid Action Test (RAT) of every incoming passenger via air-flights at the Leh airport from Monday onwards. Similar RATs will be conducted of every incoming passenger at Meenamarg and Upshi.

Div Com Biswas gave directions to ensure stringent application of restriction on night movement and strict adherence of the guidelines of the sitting capacity of one driver and two passengers in a four-wheeler, no-spitting in public places, wearing of a mask, maintaining social distance, no large social gatherings, and picnics, buses to allow passengers as per the seat guideline following social distancing and other directions. Violation of these guidelines would invite challans and other strict actions under the law, added Biswas. The surveillance team was given the direction to augment the frequency of house to house surveillance visit with working in cohesion with the police.

Biswas also gave directions for early completion of set up of 4 ICUs in Zanskar. The medical departments of both the districts were given the direction to stock medicines to last till May next year. This stocking should be done in addition to the winter stocking of the medicines, he added. He further gave directions for a proactive effort to increase the bedding capacity in COVID Hospitals with ICU as well as non-ICU facilities.

Keeping in view the large public gatherings in political meetings, the Administrators of both the districts were given directions to ensure stringent follow up of the SOPs during such meetings.

The AD Information of both the districts were given the direction to ensure wide awareness of COVID related programmes using various means such as views of medical experts, prominent citizens, and other ways for the information of the general public.
