EC Tashi takes stock of debris clearance on Zanskar National Highway

Kargil Zanskar National Highway re-connected for vehicular traffic

 

KARGIL, JULY 30, 2O21: In order to take stock of the status of flood debris clearance on Kargil Zanskar National Highway NH-301, Executive Councilor Tourism and Zanskar Affairs Er Phunsok Tashi visited various sites from Parkachik onwards till Rongo here today.

The EC Zanskar Affairs visited various flash flood points on the NH-301 from KM 87 to 97 and took on spot assessment of the debris clearance process.

EC Tashi was informed by concerned officers of the NHIDCL that sufficient manpower and machinery comprising 6 machines have been working to clear the national highway which was blocked at around 8 different sites due to the mudslides triggered by flash floods recently.

EC Tashi gave on spot directions to clear the national highway by today evening so that around 300 to 400 passengers who are stranded at Kargil reach their destinations. He further added that the passengers have been accommodated at Government Polytechnic College Kargil and sufficient facilities are being provided to them.

The EC earlier in the morning visited the stranded passengers of Zanskar at Government Polytechnic College and took stock of the facilities being provided to them.

Meanwhile, later in the afternoon all blocked sites in between the range of 87 to 97 kms on the national highway comprising 7 to 8 locations were cleared and the Kargil Zanskar National highway was re- connected for vehicular traffic.

Er Phunsok Tashi appreciated the efforts of the engineering wing of NHIDCL and the contracting agency Jehlum Engineering Works for their tireless efforts in clearing the highway.

Manager Project NHIDCL Gurpreet Singh, Project Engineer Jehlum Engineering Works besides the concerned engineers of NHIDCL were present on the occasion.
