Chandigarh, August 12- Haryana Environment and Climate Change Department organized a one day Inception Workshop for the Revision of State Action Plan on Climate Change (SAPCC) in collaboration with Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in Chandigarh.
Director, Environment & Climate Change Department, Sh. Ram Sarup Verma, along with Chairman, State Environment Impact Assessment Authority, Sh. Bharat Bhushan, were present as the Chief Guests at the Inception Workshop. Vice Chancellor, Ladakh University, Professor S K Mehta, was the Guest of Honour.
Around 50 officers / nodal persons of various line departments participated in the workshop in person and Councilor, Energy & Climate Action, Delegation of European Union to India, Sh. Edwin Koekkoek and the Deputy Commissioners of the Haryana State joined the workshop virtually.
Joint Director, Environment & Climate Change Department, Sh. Raj Kumar Chauhan presented the implementation status of First Edition of State Action Plan on Climate Change and explained that SAPCC is required to be revised in light of the commitments under India’s National Determined Contributions as per Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, GoI (MoEFCC) guidelines by keeping in view the adaptation, mitigation and resilient measures. Assessment Report 6 referred to abrupt rise in temperature due to Rise in CO2 in last two decades. The after effects of green house gases emission on various sectors were discussed and documented.
The various Departments like Agriculture, Horticulture, HPGCL, Industries and Commerce, HSIIDC, Irrigation, Forest, HAREDA, HARSAC, Animal Husbandry, UHBVN, Tourism, NABARD, State Biodiversity Board, Science & Technology Department, Health, PHED, Ayush, SWA and Transport Department and the delegates of the Universities gave various feedback related to combat the Climate Change Impact.
Sh. Edwin Koekkoek agreed to establish the Climate Change Lab in the State of Haryana.
Thereafter, the expert from GIZ-India, along with the dignitaries present, discussed the implementation of the first edition of the SAPCC with the nodal officers of the key departments and requested to provide the data of their domain pertaining to the revision of SAPCC.
