People should pay homage to Sardar Beant Singh on his death anniversary by staying at home: MLA Kotli

• In view of growing threat of COVID-19, ‘Sarab Dharam Sammelan’ would not be held at Chandigarh Memorial

Chandigarh, August 30:

MLA from Khanna Assembly constituency Mr. Gurkirat Singh Kotli today said that the ‘Sarab Dharam Sammelan’ to mark the death anniversary of late Chief Minister Beant Singh would not be held at his memorial in Chandigarh due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Urging the people of Punjab to pay homage to their beloved leader by staying at home, Mr. Kotli said that the Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh has imposed some mandatory restrictions to protect the people from the growing threat of the Corona pandemic. Thus, in the interest of the public, the family of former Chief Minister Sardar Beant Singh appealed to the Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh not to hold ‘Sarab Dharam Sammelan’, after which this decision was taken.

Mr. Kotli said, the 12th Chief Minister of Punjab Sardar Beant Singh sacrificed his life for the restoration of peace and communal harmony in the state of Punjab. Recalling memories with his grandfather, he said that moral values shown by Sardar Beant Singh, will always be a part of his life. “The people of Punjab will always remember Sardar Beant Singh’s services as a fearless Chief Minister and he will always be known as a leader dedicated to his work”, he added.

The MLA said that Sardar Beant Singh had been guarding the interests of the people for four decades. On the occasion of the 25th death anniversary of Sardar Beant Singh on August 31, the people of Punjab should pay homage to the departed leader by staying in their homes and pray for the well being of Punjab.
