Chandigarh, August 29 2021
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab Women Wing on Sunday gheraoed the state office of the Punjab BJP in Chandigarh against the BJP leaders for using abusive language and attacking women and farmers in Punjab and the entire country. The women volunteers raised slogans against Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Manohar Lal Khattar and the BJP, while the Chandigarh police used batons and water cannons to stop the protesters from going to the BJP office. Meanwhile, AAP’s Women Wing state president Rajwinder Kaur and youth leader Anmol Gagan Mann sustained serious injuries and had to be admitted to hospital.
Anmol Gagan Mann said due to the Narendra Modi-led central government, the BJP workers have turned into goons. “These BJP goons are abusing and physically assaulting women in Punjab and across the country. The state governments are avoiding taking action against these goons,” she added.
Rajwinder Kaur Thiara said that in the arrogance of power, the BJP’s goons have forgotten the country’s values. “Even the police of the ruling party are assuming the atrocities on women and the farmers as their achievements,” she added. She alleged that the police responsible for protecting the citizens of the country were supporting the goons and the state and central women’s commissions were keeping silent on women’s issues.
The Chandigarh police tried to stop the women volunteers on their way to the BJP office, but they broke through all the barriers and moved on. The Police used water cannons and cane-charged them; leaving many women injured. In the protest, Preeti Malhotra, Sukhwinder Gehlot, Dr Amandeep Kaur, Veerpal Kaur Chahal, Preeti Sanaur, Rajinderpal Chhina, Navjot Kaur Jyoti, Sonali Pandit, Balwinder Kaur Dhanora, Paramjaspal Mann, Palwinder Kaur, Santosh Kataria, Teji Sandhu, Kashmir Kaur, Kamaljit Kaur, Simple Nair, Rupinkar Kaur, Rekha Rani, Veerpal Kaur, Jaswant Kaur, Usha Rani, Baljinder Kaur Tungwali, Swaranjit Kaur Baltana, Mandeep Kaur, Tina Chaudhary and other leaders were also present.
