The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) gheraoed the residence of Raj Kumar Verka, who along with Captain Amarinder Singh, had lied on the issue of regularising sanitation workers across Punjab; who have been fighting for their rights for a long time. Disclosing this here on Monday, senior leader of the AAP and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Punjab Assembly, Harpal Singh Cheema said that like all other sections, the Captain Amarinder Singh-led Congress government had been trying to mislead the safai karamcharis, who serves for the welfare of the people, by lying to them. He said that a few days back, Raj Kumar Verka had met Captain Amarinder Singh and announced to regularise the sanitation workers, which proved to be a bundle of lies.
Cheema said that Captain Amarinder Singh’s government had not yet come up with any policy to regularise these employees nor had it been considered in the Punjab cabinet. “In such a scenario, Raj Kumar Verka is only trying to drive the sanitation workers across the state insane by playing vote politics,” he added. Cheema said that Verka should apologise to the sanitation workers for lying and making fun of them. He said that Captain Amarinder Singh had made big promises to different sections of the society by taking oath of Sri Gutka Sahib before the elections, but no promise has been fulfilled so far. The LoP said that in the coming days, the Aam Aadmi Party would expose all the false promises made by Captain Amarinder Singh’s government to the people of Punjab.
Speaking on the occasion, party’s SC Wing state president Lal Chand Kataruchakk said that Captain Amarinder Singh had betrayed every section including Dalits by lying and now the people of Punjab were determined to oust the Captain government. He said that the sanitation workers had been on strike for the last several months and the government was not even paying their salaries with the intention of harassing them. “The government should have listened to the demands of these workers and dealt with them, but the government is instead harassing them now,” he added. Kataruchakk said that he would fight till the end for the rights of the poor sanitation workers and the Aam Aadmi Party would take further action after discussing the matter with the safai karamcharis.
On the occasion, Punjab joint secretary Ashok Talwar, joint secretary Baljit Singh Khaira, urban president Parminder Singh Sethi, rural president Harwant Singh, Shamsher Singh, Tina Chaudhary, Patti, Laljit Bhullar, Ranjit Singh Cheema, Pritam Singh Babbu, Dr Inderbir Singh Nijjar, Harbhajan Singh, Dalbir Singh Tong, Kuldeep Dhaliwal, SC wing district president Dr Inderpal, SC wing general secretary Ravinder Hans, joint secretary Om Prakash Gabbar, joint secretary Love Baboria, rural co-president Seema Sodhi, Gurwinder Kaur, district women wing president Sukhbir Kaur, joint secretary Monica Lamba, Jyoti Arora, Kashmir Kaur, Sunita, Rajwant Kaur Bhatti, Mamta Rani, Pooja Verma, Vina Rani, Prabha, Harjinder, among other leaders were present.
