Action will be taken against industries which are exploiting groundwater: Smt. Keshni Anand Arora

Advises all schools and colleges to make arrangements for rain water harvesting

Chandigarh, June 10 :- Haryana Water Resources Authority Chairperson, Smt. Keshni Anand Arora said that action will be taken against industries which are illegally exploiting groundwater. The industrial unit of those who violate the rules can be closed and fine can also be imposed.

Smt. Arora was presiding over the review meeting of Haryana Water Resources Authority at Haryana Niwas here today.  On this occasion, Additional Chief Secretary, Irrigation and Water Resources Department Sh. Devender Singh, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Sh. V. Umashankar, Chief Executive Officer of Haryana Water Resources Authority, Sh. Satbir Singh Kadian, Additional Director, Information Public Relations and Languages Department of Haryana Smt. Varsha Kangwal and other senior officers were present in the meeting. The Deputy Commissioners and other departmental officers of all the districts were also connected through video conferencing.

The Chairperson of Haryana Water Resources Authority, Smt. Kesni Anand Arora directed all the Deputy Commissioners to conduct regular inspection of those industrial units which are using groundwater illegally.  He said that an Enforcement Officer has been appointed for this.  They should act swiftly on complaints sent by Haryana Water Resources Authority and also conduct weekly reviews.

Smt. Arora said that about 25,000 industrial units of the state have taken permission from ‘Haryana State Pollution Control Board’ to run their projects, but out of these, only 2,500 units applied to Haryana Water Resources Authority for permission to use groundwater.

She further added that out of 142 administrative blocks in the state, the ground water situation of 85 blocks is alarming thus complaints pertaining to illegal use of groundwater should be acted upon immediately.

She directed the officers of Education Department and deputy commissioners to repair the already built projects for rainwater conservation in all the colleges and schools before the monsoon season and to build water conservation projects at those institutes where water conservation projects have not been made. She asked to immediately adhere to the instructions in this matter.

Additional Chief Secretary, Irrigation and Water Resources Department, Sh. Devender Singh directed the Deputy Commissioners to give priority to the projects of Haryana Water Resources Authority in their respective districts. Also, to make arrangements for gathering rain water on the roof of all government buildings.  He also asked to formulate a plan for rainwater harvesting.  While appreciating the ground water recharge, conservation and other works in Mahendragarh and Charkhi Dadri districts, he encouraged other officers to follow them.

While appreciating the work done in the state under Jal Shakti Abhiyan, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Shri V. Umashankar, inspired the officers to keep up the good work with the same spirit and enthusiasm.  He also directed to prepare plans for cities like Gurugram to collect rainwater and reuse the water treated from the sewerage treatment plant.  He said that a policy has also been made for proper use of the treated water from the above plants and plans should be formulated while keeping this in mind.

On this occasion, apart from ‘District  Haryana Water Resources Authority’s Chief Executive Officer, Sh. Satbir Singh Kadian asked the Deputy Commissioners  to check the authenticity of the projects related to Jal Shakti Abhiyan. He added that the Secretaries of the Government of India will be on ground in the districts for verification of the projects, so the preparations should be complete.

On this occasion, apart from Water Resources Plan 2022, ‘Biennial Water Management Plan’, ‘Atal Bhujal Scheme’, ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan’ and various issues of conducting regular checks of industrial units through Enforcement Officers were reviewed.  In this regard, the Deputy Commissioners and departmental officers of all the districts were instructed to complete the targets within the stipulated time.
