23 inbound passengers tested COVID-19 positive during screening, testing on Thursday

KARGIL AUGUST 28, 2020: On the directions of the Deputy Commissioner/District Magistrate and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Baseer ul Haq Choudhary, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Kargil Tsering Motup today inspected the status of screening, testing and sample collection of inbound passengers traveling into Ladakh at Meenamarg.

Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Drass Asgar Ali, Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Kargil Dr Munawar Hussain Wazir besides other concerned officers accompanied the ADC during the tour.

The ADC inquired from the officers about the space designated for screening and collection of samples of the inbound passengers, availability of sampling kits, boarding and lodging of the screening and monitoring teams at Meenamarg and other related arrangements.

The CMO Kargil informed the ADC that adequate number of Rapid Antigen Test Kits have been made available for sample collection and testing of inbound passengers at Meenamarg.

Motup stressed the officers concerned and the screening and monitoring teams to ensure thorough screening and sample collection of each and every inbound passenger entering into Ladakh so that the suspected cases would be identified on spot and further course of action is taken in a proper manner.

The ADC further said that in order to put in place a mechanism for thorough and foolproof screening and sample collection system, the screening and monitoring teams would be deployed at Meenamarg 24×7 in a shift wise manner.

He also asked officers concerned to take strict legal action against the inbound passengers not cooperating with the screening and sampling teams.

Meanwhile, the ADC directed the SDM Drass to keep the Covid Care Center (CCC) at Tourist Reception Center (TRC), Drass in complete readiness in terms of necessary facilities in order to provide accommodation to COVID-19 positive case if any detected during the screening and sample collection at Meenamarg entry point.

The SDM Drass and CMO Kargil were also instructed to ensure submission of data about the screened/sampled inbound passengers and vehicles at all the entry points to the District Magistrate Kargil’s Office by 5:00 PM every day.

Pertinently, keeping in view the recent spike in the number of COVID-19 positive cases in the district, the District Administration has further intensified the process of screening, testing and sample collection.

On Thursday, 23 inbound passengers were tested positive during Rapid Antigen Testing at Meenamarg, out of whom 18 non-local passengers having their own vehicles were escorted by the Administration to Sonamarg, 3 non-local passengers were put under institutional quarantine while remaining 2 local passengers were put under home isolation amidst strict surveillance.
