In the first offline Alumni Meet after the breakout of COVID, Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh welcomed its alumni in a grand celebration of alumni-alma mater bond as it organised the annual extravaganza ‘Rendezvous and Reminiscences 2022′. Euphoria and nostalgia was writ large on the beaming faces of the alumni as they converged at the campus from different parts of the country to relive the unforgettable journey at MCM. 1977 batch alumna Dr. Bharti Uppal, Associate Medical Superintendent and Professor, CMC, Ludhiana graced the occasion as Chief Guest. The Special Guests on this occasion included illustrious alumni Ms. Sharandeep Kaur Brar, IAS, Ms. Gursimranjeet Kaur, PCS, Ms. Kimmi Dhanoa, Vice Principal, Vivek High School, Chandigarh, Ms. Renuka Salwan, Former DPR, PU and Ms. Neeru Bali, Entrepreneur, and, Dr. Neena Aneja, Principal, SD College, Moga, Prof. Puneet Aneja, A.S. College, Khanna, Punjab and Dr. Gurdip Sharma, Secretary, GGDSD College Managing Committee, Hariana, Punjab and Former PU Senior Senator and Syndic.
Taking the alumni on an inspiring journey of the college’s progress so far, Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava shared the story of transition from humble beginnings with four rooms in 1968 to the present state-of-the-art infrastructure including Central Instrumentation Lab, Incubation Centre, Social Science Research Lab, Maths Lab, Recording Studio, Gymnasium Hall, Conference Rooms, etc. She added that MCM is proud of its alumni who are spreading the institution’s fragrance worldwide and adding to the institutional legacy with their laudable accomplishments. Informing that the Association of MCM DAV Alumni (AMDA) donated Rs. 1 lac to the medical fraternity during COVID, Dr. Bhargava reminded the alumni of their responsibility to give back to the institution that nurtured them in their formative years. Dr. Bharti Uppal said that an alma mater nourishes students with knowledge and intellect, and she is proud to be an alumnus of MCM that is nurturing countless women of substance. She added that MCM has emerged as an institution of eminence due to the DAV ethos and value system, its leader’s vision, faculty’s intellect, staff’s dedication and students’ commitment. In a gesture expressing her gratitude towards her alma mater, Dr. Bharti gave a contribution of Rs.1 lac for providing scholarship to deserving students and also donated the prize money, that she got for winning the title of Ms. Alumna of the Year, for AMDA’s cause of installation of solar lights at Badheri village under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan.
The alumni had a gala time as scintillating dance performances, soulful song recital and a host of fun games added to the fun element of the meet. A highlight of the event- Alumna of the Year Contest drew an enthusiastic response with alumni of different batches gracefully walking down the ramp to grab the title. The latest issues of AMDA’s e-books ‘Agastya’ and ‘Liaquat’ were also unveiled on this occasion.
