While addressing the media, Kejriwal said, “Both Maharishi Valmiki and Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar gave utmost importance to education. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s dream was every child of India, whether he is poor or rich, should get good education. But it is very unfortunate that today due to bad condition of government schools, children of dalits and poor are not getting good education. All parties made many promises related to better education to dalit children but, didn’t take any steps to actually made it possible.” On this occasion, party’s Punjab President Bhagwant Mann, Leader of Opposition Harpal Singh Cheema, senior leader Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, party’s Punjab affairs co-in-charge Raghav Chadha, AAP leader Jeevanjot Kaur, Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, Dr. Ajay Gupta, Baldev Singh Meadian, ETO Harbhajan Singh, Dr. Jasvir Singh Sandhu, Om Prakash Gabbar and other local leaders were present.
Kejriwal made four promises related to the education of Dalit children, sanitation workers, saints and sewer men. Emphasizing on the education of poor and downtrodden children, Kejriwal made the first promise and said, “It is only through good education that equality can be braught in the society and the right to equality as enshrined in the Constitution can be ensured in the true sense.” Therefore, the government of Aam Aadmi Party will provide an opportunity to all poor and downtrodden children of Punjab to get good and free education and secure their future to make India of dreams of Babasaheb Ambedkar.
In the second promise, Kejriwal agreed to Sant Samaj’s demand to dissolve the Shrine Board and promised, “The Aam Aadmi Party government will accept the demand of Sant Samaj and dissolve the Shrine Board and hand over the responsibility of running the temple to the society.” Kejriwal made the third promise for the sanitation workers and said, the temporary sanitation workers of Punjab are forced to work on very low wages. They also have to struggle a lot to meet their daily needs. In order to make the lives of the sanitation workers prosperous, the AAP government will make sure to regularize all the sanitation workers.
Making the fourth promise, Kejriwal said, “It is very unfortunate that even in the 21st century, sewer men have to clean the drains by hand. In Delhi, we have provided kits to all sewer men. When the Aam Aadmi Party forms the government, no sewer man in Punjab will not have to clean the mess by hand, the kits will be provided to all the sewer men.
Kejriwal expressed deep grief over the stampede incident in Mata Vaishno Devi temple. He prayed for peace to the departed souls, expressed sympathy to their families and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
